Author Guidelines
Indian Journal of Health Studies (JHS) is a peer-reviewed research journal published by the Indian Association of Health Psychologists. The journal accepts submissions from the disciplines of Psychology, Medical Anthropology, Medical Sociology, Health Policy, Ayurveda, Unani, Medical Sciences, Nursing Sciences, and Public Health. The journal accepts original articles (Empirical Studies), review articles (including systematic reviews and meta-analyses), and case studies.
1. Formatting
- Prepare manuscripts in Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx).
- Font: 12-point Times New Roman
- Double-spaced throughout (including references, tables, and figure captions).
- Margins: 1 inch on all sides.
- Page numbers required.
- Follow APA Style (7th Edition) strictly.
2. Length Requirements
- Maximum length: 8,000 words (excluding abstract, references, tables, figures, and supplemental material).
3. Title Page (Submitted as a Separate File)
- The Title Page must be uploaded separately to ensure blind review.
- It must include the following:
- Title of the manuscript
- Maximum 12 words
- Include study type when appropriate (e.g., “A Meta-Analysis”).
- Author names (full names)
- Institutional affiliations
- APA-Style Author Note, including:
- ORCID IDs (if available)
- Funding sources and grant numbers
- Study preregistration details (registry name and number, if applicable)
- Data/materials/code availability statements
- Conflict of interest disclosure (or statement declaring none)
- Acknowledgements (non-financial contributions)
- Corresponding author information
- Full mailing address
- Email address
- Telephone number
4. Abstract
· Length: Maximum 250 words
For Empirical Studies, the abstract must follow a structured format that includes the study’s objective, methods, results, and conclusions; however, these subheadings should not be written in the abstract.
5. Keywords
- Provide up to five keywords below the abstract.
6. Blinded Manuscript File (Main Document)
The main manuscript must not contain identifying author information.
The document should include:
- Title (without author details)
- Main text
7. The Manuscript
Empirical Articles Must Include:
- Clear research question, hypothesis, or study aims
- Detailed methodology (even if citing a protocol paper)
- Sample characteristics and descriptive statistics
- Statistical procedures consistent with APA standards
- Ethical approval statement (name of Institutional Review Board or Ethics Committee, or exemption statement)
- Statement describing informed consent/assent procedures
- Conclusions consistent with findings
- Disclosure of limitations
- Future recommendations
8. Tables and Figures
- Place tables and figures within the manuscript at appropriate locations, immediately after they are first cited in the text.
- Number tables and figures consecutively in the order in which they are mentioned (e.g., Table 1, Figure 1).
- Provide clear, descriptive titles for tables (italicized) and concise captions for figures, following APA 7 guidelines.
- Ensure that all tables and figures conform to APA 7 formatting standards, including notes, labels, and citation requirements.
9. References
- Follow APA 7th edition format.
- Arrange references alphabetically.
- Every in-text citation must appear in the reference list and vice versa.
- Include DOIs where available.
10. Supplemental Materials (Optional)
Authors may submit supplementary online material, including:
- Extended methodology
- Additional tables or figures
- Statistical code
- Nonproprietary instruments or questionnaires
- Qualitative materials
Supplemental material does not count toward the word limit.
Refer to supplemental files at appropriate points within the manuscript.
11. Cover Letter (Required)
The cover letter must:
- Briefly describe the manuscript
- Explain how it fits the journal’s scope
- Confirm the manuscript has not been published and is not under review elsewhere
- Confirm all authors have approved the submitted version
- Disclose any related manuscripts using the same dataset
Peer Review Process
- All manuscripts undergo initial editorial screening.
- Suitable submissions are sent for blind peer review.
- Final decisions are made by the Editor
